The art of asking AI

Prompt

A prompt is simply what you say to an AI. It decides the quality of the answer — same model, different wording, very different results.

What is a prompt?

Think of an AI model as a very capable but extremely literal new hire. Tell it to “write something” and you get something bland. Tell it exactly what you're after — the audience, the tone, the length, the one thing that can't be missed — and the output suddenly clicks.
The prompt is the only lever you have. It's how you steer the model, and the gap between a lazy prompt and a precise one is the gap between a shrug and a solution.

Why prompts matter

Same model, wildly different results
Half the time you don't need a better model — you need a better question. Small changes in phrasing reliably change the quality of the answer.
Models don't read minds
They can't guess what you left unsaid. The prompt is where you make the implicit explicit.

A few habits that actually help

Give it a role and a context
“You're a senior product marketer. Turn these bullet points into a launch email that sounds confident but not pushy.”
Show, don't just describe
Want a specific tone? Paste one example and ask it to match that voice — it beats a paragraph of adjectives.
Break big tasks into steps
One step per prompt usually beats one giant instruction.

Bottom line: a prompt is an instruction manual, not a magic spell. The clearer you write it, the better the machine performs.
